Itinerary: Epiphany in Lapland with #SantaClausInLapland
Day 1 – Flight to the Arctic: Arrival in the Land of Snow and Magic Madrid / Kuusamo / Ruka The adventure begins at Madrid airport, where Catai staff will be waiting to assist with smooth and easy check-in procedures. Once everything is ready, we board a special direct flight to Kuusamo, including a complimentary snack on board. Upon landing, our local guide will greet us and accompany us on a short 20-minute transfer to the charming Rukan Salonki complex. Nestled in the heart of Lapland, Rukan Salonki is known for its comfort and authenticity. Awaiting us in our accommodations are thermal suits—our essential gear to fully enjoy the outdoor activities without worrying about the extreme cold. After settling in, we gather at the hotel restaurant for a buffet dinner, where we get our first taste of local flavors in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The perfect setting to connect with fellow travelers. A restful night in the cozy cabins awaits, preparing us for the magic ahead.
Day 2 – Arctic Companions: Huskies, Reindeer and Sami Stories Ruka - Arctic Animals: Husky Safari and Reindeer Ride A hearty breakfast kickstarts a day full of excitement. We head first to a husky farm, where energetic barks welcome us to an unforgettable experience. After learning how to steer the sled and follow safety instructions, each two-person team (a musher and a passenger) sets off through snowy trails. The initial adrenaline fades into wonder as the beauty of the Lappish wilderness surrounds us. Back at the camp, a hot drink in a traditional kota warms us up before we enjoy a light lunch. The adventure continues as we visit a reindeer farm, traveling through snow-covered forests and frozen lakes. There, we’ll ride in sleds pulled by these gentle Arctic creatures while Sami herders share fascinating tales about their ancestral way of life. In the afternoon, enjoy free time at the Rukan Salonki complex. There’s an illuminated sledding hill and snow tubes for free use, plus the unique Finnish carousel and traditional kick-sledges to explore the icy lake. We end the day with a buffet dinner at Restaurant Kultala, before retiring to rest under the Arctic sky.
Day 3 – The Magic of Santa: Childhood Dreams Come True Ruka - Santa Claus Encounter, Ice Fishing & Snowshoeing After breakfast, we prepare for one of the most magical days of the trip. A short transfer takes us to a hidden, storybook setting near Ruka—where children play on snowy slides as they wait to meet Santa Claus himself. In his cozy home, Santa and Mrs. Claus greet us warmly. Families will enjoy a personal visit, listen to stories, bake cookies, and craft holiday decorations. Each child under 11 receives a special gift from Santa—a moment they’ll never forget. We return to the hotel for a light lunch before continuing with an afternoon adventure. Wearing snowshoes, we head to Lake Veskajärvi for an ice fishing experience. At the laavu (a traditional shelter), a guide teaches us how to use the "kaira" to drill into the ice and try our luck catching perch and pike. A hot drink by the fire keeps us warm as we enjoy this peaceful activity. In the evening, we enjoy a buffet dinner at Restaurant Kultala before heading to bed.
Day 4 – Engines & Silence: Snowmobiles and a Lapland Lunch Ruka - Lunch in a Kota and Snowmobile Safari The day begins with breakfast followed by some free time. Guests can relax in the sauna or head to the nearby Ruka Alpine Ski Resort, just 15 minutes away. Open from October to May, many of its slopes are illuminated, offering flexibility for skiing at any time. Your guide will assist with tickets and equipment rentals, which can be booked by the hour. Later, we change into thermal gear once more and head to a traditional Sami kota for a light lunch in a warm, authentic setting. The afternoon brings one of the trip’s most thrilling experiences: a snowmobile safari. After safety instructions, adults take turns driving the snowmobiles (two people per vehicle), while children ride in sleds pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. Speed, snow, and scenery make this an unforgettable ride. We return to the hotel for a final buffet dinner at Kultala, then relax in our accommodations, filled with memories of the Arctic.
Day 5 – Farewell to the North: Sauna, Snow, and Sweet Goodbyes Ruka / Kuusamo / Madrid On our final morning, we enjoy a buffet breakfast and take advantage of some free time. Before leaving, don’t miss the opportunity for a final Finnish sauna session. Finland has the highest number of saunas per capita in the world—almost one for every two people—and they are deeply ingrained in the local lifestyle. After this revitalizing ritual, we head to Kuusamo Airport for check-in and boarding our direct flight back to Madrid. A snack on board helps bring this journey to a warm close. As we land in Madrid, we return not just with suitcases full of winter clothes, but with hearts full of unforgettable moments: from snowy forests and thrilling safaris to quiet traditions and the joy of meeting Santa Claus. End of services — and the beginning of lifelong memories.
