Itinerary | Christmas Special in Rovaniemi with #SantaClausinLapland
Day 1 – The magical adventure begins in the Arctic Circle Your journey starts at Madrid Airport, where the Catai team will greet you and assist with the check-in process. A special direct flight takes you to the north of Finland, to a place that feels straight out of a fairy tale: Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland. Upon arrival, your local guide will accompany you on a short transfer—just five minutes—to one of the most anticipated highlights of the trip: the world-famous Santa Claus Holiday Village, a charming cabin complex in the heart of the Arctic. Once there, you’ll receive your thermal clothing, essential for staying warm and comfortable throughout your stay. In the evening, enjoy a welcoming dinner at the hotel restaurant and settle in for your first night in this winter wonderland.
Day 2 – White thrills: Snowmobile safari through Lapland After a full buffet breakfast, one of the most exciting excursions of the trip begins: a snowmobile safari across the frozen landscapes of Lapland. With helmets and gloves provided, and under the guidance of an experienced instructor, you’ll drive through snow-covered forests and frozen rivers. Adults ride in pairs on snowmobiles, while children travel safely in a sled pulled by the guide. Along the route, we’ll stop for a traditional Lappish snack around an open fire—grilled sausages and warm drinks. In the afternoon, there’s free time for optional activities like snow karting or mini snowmobiles for kids—fun and popular options in the region. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3 – Huskies, ice and Sami culture: Arctic emotions Today brings one of the most heartwarming experiences: visiting a husky farm. After breakfast, we’ll meet these incredible dogs, bred and trained for sledding at high speeds. The guides will explain how to handle them, and each sled will be shared by two people, who alternate between driving and riding. Children sit comfortably in the sled as they glide across the snowy terrain. After the ride, we’ll enjoy a light lunch at the farm. In the afternoon, back at the village, you’ll have time to explore independently or visit the fascinating Arktikum Museum, which delves into the culture and history of Lapland and the indigenous Sami people. You’ll also get access to SnowmanWorld, a magical ice playground with sculptures, slides, and snowy fun for children. Dinner at the complex restaurant and overnight stay.
Day 4 – Joulukka: the best-kept secret of Christmas After breakfast, we head into a secret forest for one of the most anticipated moments of the trip: the magical world of Joulukka. There, friendly elves greet us and lead us into a traditional Lappish kota with a central fire. Children will join the elf school, decorate gingerbread cookies, and earn their magical diploma. We then enter the elves' command center, a fantasy-filled space with secret tests and surprises. The day’s highlight is a private family visit to Santa Claus’s cabin, where the real Santa awaits to welcome each child personally. Every child receives a special gift from Santa himself. After lunch at the Joulukka restaurant, we visit a nearby reindeer farm, where we learn about the herders’ way of life, warm up with a hot drink by the fire, and enjoy a peaceful reindeer sleigh ride. Return to the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.
Day 5 – Free day or optional excursion to the Arctic Zoo After breakfast, enjoy a free day to explore Santa Claus Village at your own pace. Shop for souvenirs, send a letter from Santa’s official post office, or simply relax in the comfort of your cabin. For those wanting more adventure, we offer an optional excursion to Ranua Zoo, the northernmost zoo in the world. Located about an hour from Rovaniemi, this arctic wildlife park is set within a natural forest and features raised wooden walkways to view animals like polar bears, moose, reindeer, snowy owls, lynx, and arctic foxes. We’ll enjoy a light lunch at the zoo restaurant before returning to Rovaniemi. On the way back, a stop at the famous Fazer chocolate shop is the perfect treat. Dinner at the restaurant and overnight stay.
Day 6 – A snowy farewell: skiing, sledding and return After a final buffet breakfast, you’ll have time to enjoy your last morning in Lapland. A great option is to visit the nearby alpine ski resort, which features five slopes, areas for children, snowboarding zones, and a special sledding track. All equipment is available for rent on site, and you can purchase hourly passes. At the scheduled time, transfer to Rovaniemi Airport for your direct flight back to Madrid. Arrival and end of a once-in-a-lifetime experience with #SantaClausinLapland, filled with magic, adventure and unforgettable family memories.
